It seemed to take Sirius an age to fall. His body curved in a graceful arc as he sank backward through the
ragged veil hanging from the arch…
And Harry saw the look of mingled fear and surprise on his godfather’s wasted, once-handsome face as he
fell through the ancient doorway and disappeared behind the veil, which fluttered for a moment as though in a
high wind and then fell back into place.

W O M E N → Darcey Bussell
In 1982 Darcey Bussell won one of eight available places at the Royal Ballet School. Despite lacking two years of experience compared to her classmates her hard work and dedication meant that she rapidly rose to prominence, winning the Prix de Lausanne in 1986. Two years later she took her first leading role in The Prince of the Pagodas at the Royal Ballet. In 1989, at the age of 20, she became the then-youngest ever principal dancer of the Royal Ballet. For the next eighteen years she danced leads not just with the Royal Ballet, but the New York City Ballet, Kirov Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, Hamburg Ballet and the Australian Ballet. She retired in June 2007; her final performance in Song of the Earth at the Royal Opera House received a standing ovation that lasted over 8 minutes.
